Isn't half moon bay the prettiest?
Anyway, now I need to go get ready for class, I guess. Even though that doesn't sound like fun. Ha!
It has taken me about a month to tell you about Danielle and Steffen’s wedding. Ha. But here I am, at the last post. (oh and here are the links to Part 1 and Part 2 in case you missed them).
So after getting ready at the Ritz and having our pictures taken and all of that we headed down to Mullens where the reception would take place. We sat in this room and started to get really, really nervous. Then we listened to a little “Party Rock” on Courtney’s cell and everything got infinitely better. Then it was time to head out to the ceremony.
I walked down the isle with my man twin, Josh, waited up at the alter for Danielle while Steffen sobbed. It was so sweet.
The ocean was in the background and although it was overcast out, it was beautiful.
The ceremony was really sweet and I was smiling the entire time in an attempt not to cry in front of 100+ people. Ha. I would!
After the ceremony, it was picture time/cocktail hour. We waited and took some pictures under the alter then headed inside real quick to get some drinks (Josh and I double fisted champagne and Kate stole a whole bottle for us to take on our picture adventure). After a slight mishap we were in our golf carts heading down to the beach to take some wedding party + bride and groom pictures. I wish I would have brought my camera to the golf cart adventure. But I didn’t. Bad blogger.
After picture time we headed back to Mullens and bustled up Danielle.
Right after we got back it was dinner time. I love dinner time. I was starving. I got sat next to Josh at dinner (we were at the big wedding party table in front of everyone and we felt really cool about it) and obvi we had a great time (twinz do that).
KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN! Like this!
Dinner was delish. It started with a yummy salad, a piece of bread with goat cheese on it and a roll. A+:
Also I had 4 drinks… because that’s how I roll at weddings apparently (two champagnes, one red one and one water):
After that our main courses came. I ordered the chicken dish (I can’t remember what it was called now, but it was really good – it was chicken, wrapped in filo and stuffed with some mushroom amazingness).
Josh ordered the Prime Rib and I forced him to trade me a bite for a bite. His was amazing too. NOM:
We obviously finished our dinners completely, and hoarded a dish of butter too.. Fat kids FOR SURE! We also finished up Courtney’s prime rib when she couldn’t do so herself. All that standing, and picture taking and stress really made us hungry.
During dinner there were a bunch of toasts too. I had to hold back tears the entire time. Weddings are so emotional. Sigh!
But I remember sitting there during dinner thinking: I can’t believe this is it. I can’t believe they’re FINALLY married. They’ve been together the entire time I’ve known them and they are one of those couples you just know are supposed to be together. They are really really great and I am just so happy for them.
After dinner we got up to go watch Danielle and Steffen’s first dance. But first, a surprise! Whatttt?
Steffen surprised Danielle by playing/singing a song that he had been practicing for a few months, SO SWEET!
He sang her “Teenage Dream” by Katy Perry but changed some of the lyrics. If I told you I didn’t ugly sob during it I would be lying. Like really, really ugly crying.
What can I say? After having such a stressful/emotional day, where I held back tears for like, the entire day, when I was watching him play/sing her that song, it was just SO sweet. And I wept. But when I looked over I saw that Courtney was doing the same, so it was ok. (P.S. her boyfriend may be my man twin, but she is my female twin. Love.)
Ugly cry faces? Don’t say I didn’t warn you:
Then came their first dance which they had been taking dancing lessons in preparation for. It was really really good. I loved it, which is saying something because usually I hate first dances. Like how awkward, everyone standing there watching you grope each other and makeout to a song for 5 minutes? NO thank you!
After that I went to the bathroom, wiped the ugly off, went outside for a second, then got the dance party started (duh):
The DJ was really great. He didn’t just play songs iPod style, he actually mixed them it was a great dance party.
I kept taking breaks to go outside because I kept feeling super overwhelmed though. Then going back inside to dance (obvi) and take care of drunk people (oh the life of a bride’s maid).
And then near the end of the night Danielle suggested a tequila shot (which were kind of our thing in college – um, Patron, yes please). The other bride’s maids got word and it turned into a bridal party shot. And it was awesome!
We hung out until the end of the reception then helped clean up a little before Kate and I headed back to our hotel room to change and go to the house the boys had rented for a little (super mellow) after party.
That night we slept for a few hours before getting up and heading back to the airport. I sat next to the worst child ever on the flight back to Seattle. He had no sense of boundaries. I almost punched him, but I didn’t. Close call. Note: don’t ever touch me over and over again on a flight when I’m about to vom from my raging hangover. But that’s beside the point…
Danielle and Steffen had the best wedding ever. Ever ever ever. It was just so perfect and nice and fun. I loved it.
The end.
May I please just start out by saying that this was probably the best wedding ever? True story.
The day started with a little continental breakfast (thanks best western for my toasted bagel with two cream cheeses, yogurt cup, OJ & Coffee) followed by showering and blow drying our hair in our hotel room. After that Kate, Courtney, Kristina and I headed over to the Ritz to Danielle’s sweet to finish getting ready with her, her mom and the rest of the bride’s maids.
Danielle was a little nervous earlier that morning (as is to be expected of any bride) but seemed to be totally fine once she started getting her hair and makeup done. I have to admit, she was way more collected than I imagine I will be on my wedding day (you know, if I ever have a wedding day).
Danielle getting her hair+makeup done:
Danielle’s mom taking the amazing dress to Danielle:
Me, Kate, Courtney and Kristina in Danielle’s sweet, all ready for picture time:
I did my own hair by curling it all then sticking it in a low, curly, messy, side bun. I think it turned out really well. I wish I would have taken a better picture. I also curled Kate’s hair (the brunette in the above picture), finished Courtney and Carly’s hair and curled Tietjen’s hair. I was on a roll!
After we were finally all ready, and had enjoyed some (very expensive, very delicious, room service) fruit, cheese, crackers and champagne it was time to head downstairs to take some pictures.
On our way down, when we stepped off the elevator we ran into Simon Baker who was also apparently staying at the Ritz Carlton at Half Moon Bay. Danielle had a totally star struck moment in her wedding dress saying “hiii”i to him. He then congratulated her on her big day. Gush!
When we finally made it down to the hotel lobby everyone was staring at us. Probably because Danielle looked so amazing.
We got into the hotel’s escalade and were taken to the picture site. Baller status, right? haha.
The place where we took our bridal party pictures was really, really pretty. It was right near where the wedding would take place later that afternoon, overlooking the ocean:
After pictures were over we went back to Danielle’s hotel room for more cheese and crackers and champagne. We also listened to Danielle read us her vows (since that part of the ceremony would be private – a friend would be playing a song while they recited their vows to each other without microphones). They were so sweet and perfect. Not overly gushy. A perfect representation of their relationship. I seriously love them!
After that it was time to head down to Mullins, start to get really nervous, and wait for the wedding to begin…
Oh my you guys, I spent the weekend in Half Moon Bay, CA (about 30 minutes west of San Francisco on the coast) for Danielle and Steffen’s wedding weekend! So amazing!
I flew from SeaTac to SFO on Friday morning, then waited for Kate in San Fran at the airport. When her flight got in we waited in a humongo line for our rental car then went on our way to half moon bay. We checked in at our hotel then immediately went to dinner at Half Moon Bay Brewing Company. It was pretty romantic. I had beer (true story, I just typed in I hate Beer – I think my liver is speaking for me right now), she had wine, I guess that means I was the guy on our “date”.
Next we pit stopped at Safeway for some vodka (I LOVE that you can buy alcohol from a grocery store in California! LOVE!!) and some snacks (for later, of course), then went back to our hotel room to wait for everyone else to get in. Not soon after, we got an invite to go over to a house that some of the guys had rented. Side note: Danielle was my sorority sister and Steffen was also in a fraternity at UW – ALSO they have been together since their sophomore year in High School though – crazy, right? Anyway, we went over to the frat boys’ house to play some beer pong (keeping it fratty, of course) and wait for Danielle and Steffen to arrive.
After some fun times with the guys we decided to head back to the hotel room to get some rest so that we would be ready for our 9am rehearsal the next morning.
Rehearsal was super quick and painless.
After rehearsal, Kate and I were STARVING (obviously) so we went to the Garden Deli and Cafe in downtown Half Moon Bay, and OH MY GOSH, I got the MOST amazing sandwich. If you are ever in Half Moon, you’ve GOT to go there:
After our sandwich we went back to the hotel and waited for our other sorority sisters to arrive. Once they did they immediately wanted a nap so Kate, Rachel and I went to Courtney and Carly’s room to hang for a while until it was time to get ready for rehearsal dinner.
We (Kate, Me, Kristina and Courtney) ended up getting to rehearsal dinner a little early and decided to have a glass of champagne at the bar:
Then when it was time to start the dinner we headed outside to where they had the tables set up. Everyone was kind of late due to the fact that the guys were playing a game of golf until 6 minutes before the rehearsal dinner started. WHOOPS!
But they got there and everything was good. Don’t Danielle and Steffen just look amazing?
Of course I made Steffen give me some love too :)
We sat down to an amazing seafood dinner (complete with many, many glasses of wine).
My soul mates (Josh and Courtney – yes, both of them are my soul mates) getting ready to chow down:
After dinner we hung out outside:
And they guys had even set up some golf game where you tried to hit the ball into these floating things in the pond. Needless to say, the girls weren’t very good at it:
Then I took these pictures with Josh (soul mate, who I also walked down the isle with), who can’t keep his eyes open:
Then I was all, HERE, I’ll even SHOW you how to do it:
Whatever, you’re never going to get it…
Now you’re a supermodel and I’m a motherfuckingbear, RAWR!
And then I just kept telling the bartenders to “Fill it up, yeah, all the way to the top, kthx” and we took some more pictures:
Some of them were even nice, like this one of Danielle and I:
Then we decided that Courtney could be our honorary sorority sister. Obvi we took a crown pic, Zeta love!
After that I figured that maybe it would be fun to take Prom Pics with all of the men in Danielle’s family starting with her grandpa:
Then her brother, Michael, who is RAD by the way:
And then, of course, her dad:
Then her dad was really excited about partying it up, so we took shots together (Eric (the best man), Me, Kate and her dad (who took a shot of wine, because he doesn’t do shots):
And then when I woke up the next morning, this was the last picture that had been taken on my camera and I thought to myself, that was the most fun night I’ve had in long time. I LOVE this.
Then after all my fun last night my stomach started calling to me, and clearly it was time for some continental breakfast (bagel with TWO things of cream cheese – Josh agreed, soul mates – Yogurt, juice and coffee, BOOM) before heading to Danielle’s bridal sweet to get ready for the WEDDING!!! But that’s a story for my next post…
