For the past hour or so I have been sitting here doing absolutely nothing with my life. The internet is wayyy too distracting for its own good! I need to read read read.
You know, it's really weird to think of all the changes that have occurred in my life during the past few years. Today I was thinking that since my Freshman year of college I have become so extremely motivated. Back then I used to skip class, not do my homework on a regular basis, not want to go to grad/law school, not work, not want to be involved in anything. That sucked. I am way busier now, but also way happier. I guess alcohol has also influenced that a little. I also didn't drink my Freshman year of college, which left me feeling extremely disconnected from my sorority sisters, as well as the Greek system, and basically the entire UW. But all that has changed.
My Sophomore year I was so unhappy here. I did not want to be a part of Zeta, I dreaded coming back to ZTA after basically every weekend I spent at home in White Salmon, however, now I enjoy living here. I mean, sometimes things really piss me off (like when 3 girls refuse to give up the TV room on Monday nights because they are watching the bachelor, which is on ABC and therefore on in every room in the house, when 10 of us want to watch the Hills, which is only on MTV and therefore only on in the TV room) (oh, yeah, and the internet and the food), but for the most part it is so nice living here. I love my pledge class and my "family" so much. I honestly don't know what I'm going to do when I don't live here anymore. It's so weird.
I was also thinking how financially independent I've become recently. I don't ask my parents for money anymore, ever. I have a job, and I'm poor all the time, but I make it work. Unlike a ton of my peers, my family can't afford to hand me money every time they see me, and I guess it has made me really really appreciative of all of the things which they are able to do for me. I understand now what it means to work and be basically self-sufficient.
It is so weird to think of how far I have come and how much I have changed since high school. I honestly think that almost all of my changes and progressions have been extremely positive. I have matured as an individual and I am more knowledgeable about what and who makes me happy and how to keep those positive things surrounding me. I have also really come to understand what will continue to make me happy in the future (although today I did have a major melt-down when I started thinking about law school and how I am probably setting myself up for failure and self-loathing by heading down this path) but I think that whatever I chose for my future it will be positive and even if I make mistakes along the way I know that I can get through almost anything, and I know that I can learn from my misfortunes in order to make me a better, happier, stronger person.
