ugh to the millionth

fml
after like 3 hours of sleep I am up and ready to go to work (and by ready, I mean dreading this and pissed at Carin for asking me to work at 7:30am instead of my scheduled 1.
christmas party at brian and chris's was a success - I'm thankful I got to spend christmas with friends
however, my 3 hrs of sleep yeilded nothing but restlessness and nightmares, boo.
(I am obviously sleep-deprived-grumpy) so I'm sorry for my rant

Let's go slowly, discouraged,
Distant from other interests
On your favorite weekend ending
This love's for gentlemen only
That's with the fortunate only
No I gotta be someone else
These days it comes it comes it comes it comes it comes and goes

oh christmas

merry christmas everyone!

yesterday I worked at Ground and then stopped by Brian's Pourhouse for the christmas gathering. I had a drink and got a sweet hat and some socks from the owner <3 yay.

After that I came home and had dinner with my family and then we opened gifts. we had a really small christmas this year which was good :)

my parents bought me a 5th of crown for christmas... hummmm what do you think that means? and a meat tenderizer haha. double wow.

brother Jim got me a french press, which I really really wanted. yay!

It was a good night.

this morning I slept in because my mom had to work so we're not doing anything as a family really. When I woke up I went to Ground and met Jessie. We had coffee and breakfast sandwiches. yummy. peppermint/white chocolate mocha!

I came home and now have two pumpkin cheesecakes in the oven. I will leave one with my dad and brother and take the other one to Brian (my old boss's house) for their christmas gathering. Hooray.

I have to work too early in the morning. But it's all good. I need the dolla dolla bills. ha. gangster.

anyway like I said before: merry christmas everyone. I hope you have joy and love in your hearts today.

Tuesday, December 22, 2009

today (and tomorrow and the next day and basically every day this week minus christmas) I am working at Ground. Whoop. I'm actually pretty excited about it.

yesterday I got to spend the whole day with my favorite, Emma! we christmas shopped, ate good food and watched movies! fun fun!

today after work I get to have lounge night with jessie and heather! I am SO stoked! I <3 them! and it will be nice to eat some vegan/gluten and refined sugar free food! Jessie is an awesome cook!

because I want to, not because I have to

went to a white elephant christmas party at one of my classmate's house last night then to sister kylee's then to cha cha's with kylee, noelle and nathan. good times.

I offended my friend by telling him I hunt.

then I asked a random boy to make out with me to prove a point when the bar was closing. he wouldn't. he was creepy and at the bar alone. fml.

now I have capitol hill hotdog reminents all over my apartment... I think my body was so happy to have the meat and carbs and cream cheese that it didn't even make me hungover today. I'm so glad I got to introduce sister kylee to the magic that is hotdog stands! so effing delicious.

now my day: breakfast with John Tjfkdlasjl, u vill with erica, dinner with Leslie, Kristen's christmas party with sister Erin. Fun fun. Home tomorrow.

I am going to miss my apartment, SO much. ugh.

but! reading because I want to, not because I have to will start soon! win.

so accomplished ha

I finally finished finals today. Whoop! Done with my first semester of law school. After I went to lunch with a bunch of people from school, had two beers (finally!! haha! Then I came home, tried to take a nap, couldn't (I think my life is overstimulated, I barely slept last night either... wtf?). So I decided to get up and take a power shower. But in the place of the standard beer (who wants to be normal?) I drank a sugar free redbull and now I'm powering through. I got ready and I'm set to go out. Whoop. I hope tonight holds some good times because there are so so many possibilities. haha.

I want your love, love love love I want your love. ra ra ah ah ah mama ma ma ma ra ra oh lala... :)

farewell for now, coffee shop love

sitting at Zoka for the last time this finals week. tomorrow at promptly 12:30pm (after a 4 hour long criminal law final) I will be done with round one of law school finals.

I did, however, buy some of their holiday blend to take home to the parents house. It is my new favorite thing as I'm sure you all know.

I'll miss the random cute boys I make awkward eye contact with here. Until then maybe I can make not so awkward eye contact with boys who want to learn my name ;) hah. I have high hopes for my life.

I can't wait to see my friends from home.

I am a little disappointed, though, by the fact that I won't be able to attend Dane's memorial. It's at 2pm tomorrow in Hood River. Sad day for many reasons.

speaking of home, apparently people have been talking. my mom called me yesterday to tell me that she heard (from someone I don't even know) that I'm dating my ex HS boyfriend. un-true. weird how people talk. Ha.

Well, maybe I should get up, go home and let one of the lingerers have my chair/table here.

xxoo.
I ♥ the manchild behind the bar at Zoka who has the largest, thickest, most OUT OF CONTROL mustache I have EVER seen, and who is dancing sporadically to death cab. You, stranger, just made my day

zoka and civ pro

I am once again in Wallingford at Zoka. Black, french press Holiday Blend = love.

the combo of studying civil procedure (and by studying I mean re-learning/learning for the first time a whole semester's worth of the rules of how to "fight") and sitting here makes me want to quit law school and go back into food service. Food service = good money, mostly good people and happiness, well mostly happiness. It is so much easier and so much more fun. A little less "prestigious" but who really cares at this point?

life plan needs to get put into action...

I have a feeling that if I work at either of my old food service jobs over Christmas break I'll be longing once again for long days spent in front of my computer/reading case books. I always think that life would be so much better on the other side of the fence.

Ok back to work.

want

but probably in a different color, nix the belt.
also: the word "wiener"

haha

next

I am avoiding studying for my civil procedure final at all costs. today I had my property final. it went ok, I think. The multiple choice was kind of hard for me, essays were better. Crossing my fingers for at least a C. Stupid law school grading curve. I guess at least this means that not everyone will fail civ pro - it does have an up side. ha.

it is snowing in hood river. jealous.

I want to go to the movies at home. a lot. haha. I just want to do lots of fun things. and read books. I want to read because I want to (not because I have to) soo bad. I've been craving novels. I will be hitting up barnes and nobel soon.

today I talked to heather on the phone. we talked about NYE. I was reminded that I need to find a boy to kiss at midnight. FML. haha.

I wasn't very good at vegan/gluten free/no refined sugar today. I ate ice cream. Oops. and a cookie thanks to the law school, but that was more out of famish/hunger after the final than actually wanting to eat a cookie. whatevs.

big bang in a few.

like I said, avoiding studying. my brain is done with law school. haha.

worst week

I am having a horrible past few days. Finals plus a ton of sadness stemming from people at home. Unfortunate events.

rest in peace, Dane. we'll miss you.

chani, I'll be praying for you.

grandma, I hope you get better :(

but... here is a cute picture from the University of Pheonix employee holiday party last night (to lighten the mood). I went with Cameron, did karaoke and hung out with his co-worker's BFF/dates (making new friends, yeah).

1L advice for over achievers

I am going to give everyone a little piece of advice, which I know most of you probably won't take. If you're thinking of going to law school because "it sounds like a good idea" or "being a lawyer will make me rich" or "it's better than not going to law school" it's NOT. Don't do it. I know everyone says that, but there is a REASON everyone says that.

I'll admit that most of the time it's not that bad, if you don't mind doing tons of reading and not really having a social life (although I've managed to get my shit done most of the time and spend friday nights or saturdays with friends). The classes are sometimes terrible, I don't think anyone enjoys Socratic method - it's never fun to get called out in front of your peers and not have an answer - and the reading is usually long and tedious. However, it wasn't until finals that I realized how terrible law school really is. Anxiety, sadness and the feeling of inadequacy have set in, for almost everyone (I think).

If after this spiel you think I'm crazy and law school still sounds like a good idea for one of your terrible "reasons" then take the LSAT. If you find that at all terrible, you're only getting a glimpse of what the next three years of your life will be like (I would a million times rather take the LSAT than a law school final - at least you know what to expect from the LSAT and you have adequate time to prepare). If, however, you loved the LSAT experience then maybe you are headed in the right direction....

good luck young children, make good choices.

P.S. Being a lawyer had better be AWESOME... but from what I've heard it's really not... FML.

the best part of my crappy chinese delivery? (I'll give you a hint, it wasn't the gross seafood which totally did not satisfy my craving). The fortune!

"you will win over someone's heart"

that's just what I need. Please, God, let it be someone great. :)

"the spirited law student handbook"

the spirited law student handbook was right. Anxiety, and sadness have set in. I completely blame finals. I, however, do not feel alone in my anxiousness. I have a feeling most of my classmates are in the same boat as me. I just wish they would have told us that law school was all fun and happy hours and days filled with reading and class until finals time. This is the only part that actually matters and it's freaking me out.

Today I have to go watch Abbey and Amelia for a few hours then it's off to final #2: torts. Wish me luck, friends.

Wednesday, December 9, 2009

There is the hottest man in the Wallingford Zoka right now. I need to figure out a way to make friends/lovers.

Sunday, December 6, 2009

hi friends

so I wish I knew what an allergic reaction felt like because I think I may be having a minor one to my vegan and gluten free bread (which is super delicious, thank you great grain bread co). How come I can love it and it doesn't have to love me back?
I guess that is a feeling I possess not only toward my vegan/gluten free bread, but also other things. Other foods, people, straight As...

7. I have had too much capitol hill hipsters/gay men (I mean random gay men who I don't know and who have no interest in me b/c I have a vag - haha, whiny sorry) in the last two days. I want home. Hood Riverrrrr.
8. I need to go workout today. or early tomorrow. go go.

story of my life

signing while studying: "studying law, makin' a responsible choice for my future... on a Friday night... being a lawyer better be awesome..." - Marshall on How I Met Your Mother

for dinner

spinach and curried sweet potato "quesadilla" with a little vegan cheese, on a gluten free tortilla. yummy.

also, went to the gym tonight.

now making Torts note cards.

I am SO determined to feel great during finals :) happy and healthy is the way to be hooray!

health

So right now, because of the looming anxiety associated with finals, I am doing a vegan, gluten-free, no refined sugar diet. Whoop. I do this in hopes that my tummy will not freak the eff out at the first hint of my nervousness. So far it's going great. I made some super yummy soup last night:

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon extra virgin peanut oil
2 cups chopped onions
1 teaspoon chopped red chili
1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
1 cup chopped carrots
2 cups chopped sweet potato
1 qt. vegtable stock
2 cups tomato juice
1 cup smooth peanut butter
1 tablespoon sugar

Preparation
Method:

Fry onion and red chili in peanut oil. Add ginger, carrots, sweet potato and stock.

Simmer until all ingredients are cooked and tender and then add tomato juice, peanut butter and sugar.

Bring back to the boil, season and then blend until smooth.

Also, today I had criminal law, civil procedure (which was useless) and soon property for the last time this semester (and criminal law for the last time ever). Tomorrow I have Torts and then I will be done with going to class for the semester. I'm 1/2 way there. Finals, here I come. Now, please don't talk to me for the next two 1/2 weeks :) thanks.

also I thought you might be exctied to know that I turned in my legal writing memo last night, and I am now done with legal writing for the quarter...
(today was killer, I was so tired and drained and I couldn't sleep last night)

1 down, 5 to go

sigh.

But on the bright side I get to head back to White Salmon for Thanksgiving break the day after tomorrow. I cannot wait.

Now I am headed to work. As much as I LOVE LOVE the Koory's and I love my job, I really wish I didn't have to go to work today :( it's stress/crunch time.

5. Short week this week thanks to THANKSGIVING! I am thankful for no school.

spam

this morning my e-mail got hacked/spammed and sent some bullshit e-mail to everyone in my address book
cool
it was not only unprofessional looking but also insulting in the fact that I KNOW HOW TO SPEAK ENGLISH! I would never say: I wish you like it. ugh.

doing laundry in the laundry room now. super fun.

but I am going to dinner and out tonight. hooray.

also I got a late bday card in the mail from Brian today, which made me smile.

okayyyyyyy sorry if you got my spam e-mail, that wasn't actually from me (obviously).

belltown happy hour

today I went to "list" in belltown with Katie for happy hour
best. happy. hour. ever.
all of the food on their menu was 1/2 off, which was pretty sweet
cheap wine, bottles were only $14
I had a "grilled" Caesar salad - it was a whole chunk of lettuce grilled, and one of the best salads I have ever experienced
we both got the gnocchi with black truffles - best gnocchi EVER (Katie totally agreed, we were in love) it was soft and delicious
and we shared some focaccia with some yummy toppings - goat cheese and cranberries and other things
plus a glass of wine
andddd the bartender was super cute, always a plus when you get to look at someone cute while you're eating ;) haha

it was the perfect distraction for an hour tonight

I want to go to Belltown more often.

yum!

Dear God,

Please bring Jessie and I boys (scratch that, insert: men) who love us, and who will be good providers and husbands and daddys (eventually; very very eventually for me and kind of eventually for her). It would be ideal if you could give them to us immediately. Thank you, we love you, AMEN!

our generation's male midlife crisis

The old cliché was that a man would wake up one morning and realize that he wanted his youth back. The new version is that he never reached adulthood in the first place.

In their most conscious moments, these new midlifers realize their partners are witty and smart and want to make life easy and fun for them. But at some base level, they're turned off by the sweaty maneuvering of the type A girl, she knows what she wants and goes after it without apology.

and so this sums up most of my last relationship. click here to read it all.

rememories

Where Will I Re-Discover You?

Where will I rediscover you
and will I?
The question sits on all the lips of those
who lie in bed alone. You is/are the name
each of us give to what we love the most
or what we have not, will not know.

And it is almost always that One, absent,
Gone, through circumstance
or happenstance.
Where did I lose you and when? Did it
Happen even as we knew we were
discovering each other that first time.
Was loss a piece of swelling
big as the enlarging heart?

Sweet basil growing greener reaches up
and through the grass like weeds.
Mallards form a rope across the sky
coming from the south in secret.
Cinnamon Teal bring up the rear.

An early thaw has made all canyons
into rivulets.
The daisies saying love me now
or love me not.
If I have thought about you more than
now it must have been some other me
living in a different heartbreak house
surrounded by some other hedge of memory.

I have been to town and back, to Greece
in dreams and in reality. To far shore,
near field, streets between and always I
have sought you out; on yellow days in
yellowed pages, through rages of the mind
and heart. I do not start out on a trip to
corner or beyond without you for you
have never left my head or would be heart.

Where will I come upon you, if I do?
Perhaps in death or life again. When?
Perhaps not ever, what then? I'll give
It another day, a week. Another month.
A lifetime more or less, then I'll give up.

weekend in seattle

friday night Leslie and Jon came to my apartment to prefunk the SU law section C kegger. we then took a cab to Freemont and joined our section.
After that, Me, Erin and Leslie went to the Red Door to meet our friend Kirsten and meet up with Leslie's manfriend :) haha.
We had a good time, eventually all got separated, other law kids showed up...
I ended up in a cab with like 6 other ppl at around 3am.
The cab driver dropped them all off together (apparently they all live on the same block) and then he yelled at me because I didn't know my address. Ha. OOPS.

Saturday I went to lunch with Katie, her Mom and her Niece at Ivars on the Alaskan Way Pier. It was really nice. After that I went to Target and got a new lamp and then had a really low key evening.

Today: homework all day and maybe the EMP with Katie.

I have an "urge" (my friend Erica LOVES that word... ;) haha) to go to a movie at the movie theater near my apartment, and to Nordstrom's on 5th (which is luckily only about 4 or 5 blocks from me). Maybe I'll do that this afternoon after intense homework/outlining time.

P.S. Heather is such a good friend. Other people are not and they can go to...

then, head south, pick up cousin Katie on the way and head back to the Gorge.

the girls boys sleep with in law school:

click here to read all the profiles :)

5. THE HEAD CASE

She’s attractive, but a stress bag. A walking, breathing car wreck. Intelligent enough to be proficient, not quite smart enough to be calm. Obsesses over every assignment or exam. A nattering, nail-biting wreck. Everyone she knows is her therapist, which is generally you more than any of the others. Why? Because the two of you got together after an exam, threw back a dozen vodkas and wound up screwing on her couch.

Downside: Perpetually in some form of dire crisis, and you have to save the day.
Bonus: The solution’s always sex.

7. THE ‘MRS.’ CANDIDATE

She’s hot. And she has to be for what she’s seeking, which isn’t a JD. Daddy has a few bucks, enough to pay her way through grad school. And McKinsey wasn’t interviewing any Interpretative Dance majors. She thought about medical school. She thought about an MBA. Both required actual work. So she took a Kaplan course, pulled a decent score on the LSAT and here she is, looking for the “Mr.” to her “Mrs.” If you’re a half-decent-looking law student with a thimble’s worth of charm (otherwise known as one of the twelve normal guys in the class), you’re in the midst of her “no less than two karats” crosshairs.

Upside: She looks great naked.
Downside: She screws like a Real Doll.
Morning-After Downside: Her birth control pill caddie has an undisturbed wrapper around it.
Extra-Horrible Morning-After Downside: So does the condom in your wallet.

thank you Brittan for that :)

Dear God,

[insert cute boy here, please]

property

apparently I have severe, paralyzing anxiety when I get called on in property.

it was so bad that I literally could not say what I needed, even though I knew the answer. It was one of the scariest things that has ever happened to me.

SO I came home and had a glass of wine.

I've been sick today and yesterday (not severely sick, but achy and tired and some pain breathing/sinus pressure).

So... naps and heaters ON
and
I just made myself some homemade chicken and dumplings (well kind of more like a chicken soup that I made up with dumplings). I also have orange juice. Are you sick too? come over and I will take care of you.

I'll make such a good wifey one day ;)

I've got to rest up. Saturday = opening day of hunting season and time with my cousins: Katie and Tad and also my uncle bert. I'm so good at gathering the fam! We just need Jim and Chip and it would be cousin-complete :)

inherent

I am still so happy this week. It's like a weird weight has been lifted or something.

Today I went to legal writing, then to northgate, then came home read a little, showered and got ready. I'm about to leave for Torts then to a 1L SU happy hour. So stoked for social interaction! After that the office and homework.

Only one class tomorrow.

Can't decide whether or not to go home this weekend... I love my friends at home slash Joel's birthday versus Husky football.

Also last night = Kamiak and Katie and sex and the city game at her new apartment :) fun fun.

life is good. really.

P.S. love love love living alone, it's the best thing ever.

a lawyer walks into a bar

http://www.alawyerwalksintoabar.com/video/clip3.html

things you should know about law school

a| today I was in the basement of the law school from 8:30am - 3:20pm. The walk home was the only time I got to enjoy the sunny seattle day, because now that I'm at home I will do homework until I go to bed, and probably will not finish all of it for my classes tomorrow.

b| I always feel like I'm getting sick

c| relationships = fail

d| I have been learning (especially in the last week or so)what truly makes me happy

e| I cherish the few normal, non-law school related conversations I have with people during my day

f| I really really really cannot wait to graduate

g| I feel smart (just in general and as compared to myself before law school)

Love is the only thing in this life that definitively and triumphantly answers the problem of boredom. Only what you love never gets boring — until you stop loving it. Only what gets old gets boring. And love never gets old. Love is always young, always new, always beginning.

Goooooo... Huskiesssssss

On Saturday the Huskies won their first Football Game since November 2007, and I was there to experience it. Glorious day.

contageous

I just read this article in the NY times:
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/13/magazine/13contagion-t.html?pagewanted=1&_r=1&em

it talks about how your friends and even friends of friends and friends of friends of friends can influence your lifestyle: whether you gain or lose weight, whether you're happy or lonely or depressed, etc. So strange but SO interesting...

here are some of my favorite points (copied and pasted as it was a 10 pg long article):

By analyzing the Framingham data, Christakis and Fowler say, they have for the first time found some solid basis for a potentially powerful theory in epidemiology: that good behaviors — like quitting smoking or staying slender or being happy — pass from friend to friend almost as if they were contagious viruses. The Framingham participants, the data suggested, influenced one another’s health just by socializing. And the same was true of bad behaviors — clusters of friends appeared to “infect” each other with obesity, unhappiness and smoking. Staying healthy isn’t just a matter of your genes and your diet, it seems. Good health is also a product, in part, of your sheer proximity to other healthy people.

Paul Lazarsfeld, a sociologist at Columbia University, who analyzed how a commercial product became popular; he argued it was a two-step process, in which highly connected people first absorbed the mass-media ads for a product and then mentioned the product to their many friends. (This concept later bloomed in the 1990s and in this decade with the rage for “buzz marketing” — the attempt to identify thought-leaders who would spread the word about a new product virally.) Lazarsfeld also studied how political opinions flowed through friendship circles; he would ask a group of friends to identify the most influential members of their group, then map out how a political view or support for a candidate spread through and around those individuals.

A 2000 study of dorm mates at Dartmouth College by the economist Bruce Sacerdote found that they appeared to infect each other with good and bad study habits — such that a roommate with a high grade-point average would drag upward the G.P.A. of his lower-scoring roommate, and vice versa. A 2006 Princeton study found that having babies appeared to be contagious: if your sibling has a child, you’re 15 percent more likely to have one yourself in the next two years.

Over the next few years, Christakis and Fowler managed a team that painstakingly sifted through the records. When they were done, they had a map of how 5,124 subjects were connected, tracing a web of 53,228 ties between friends and family and work colleagues. Next they analyzed the data, beginning with tracking patterns of how and when Framingham residents became obese. Soon they had created an animated diagram of the entire social network, with each resident represented on their computer screens as a dot that grew bigger or smaller as he or she gained or lost weight over 32 years, from 1971 to 2003. When they ran the animation, they could see that obesity broke out in clusters. People weren’t just getting fatter randomly. Groups of people would become obese together, while other groupings would remain slender or even lose weight.

When a Framingham resident became obese, his or her friends were 57 percent more likely to become obese, too. Even more astonishing to Christakis and Fowler was the fact that the effect didn’t stop there. In fact, it appeared to skip links. A Framingham resident was roughly 20 percent more likely to become obese if the friend of a friend became obese — even if the connecting friend didn’t put on a single pound. Indeed, a person’s risk of obesity went up about 10 percent even if a friend of a friend of a friend gained weight.

Smoking, they discovered, also appeared to spread socially — in fact, a friend taking up smoking increased your chance of lighting up by 36 percent, and if you had a three-degrees-removed friend who started smoking, you were 11 percent more likely to do the same. Drinking spread socially, as did happiness and even loneliness. And in each case one’s individual influence stretched out three degrees before it faded out. They termed this the “three degrees of influence” rule about human behavior: We are tied not just to those around us, but to others in a web that stretches farther than we know.

experiments have shown that if a person is seated next to someone who’s eating more, he will eat more, too, unwittingly calibrating his sense of what constitutes a normal meal. Christakis and Fowler suspect that as friends around us become heavier, we gradually change our mental picture of what “obese” looks like and give ourselves tacit permission to add pounds. With happiness, the two argue that the contagion may be even more deeply subconscious: the spread of good or bad feelings, they say, might be driven partly by “mirror neurons” in the brain that automatically mimic what we see in the faces of those around us — which is why looking at photographs of smiling people can itself often lift your mood.

The subconscious nature of emotional mirroring might explain one of the more curious findings in their research: If you want to be happy, what’s most important is to have lots of friends. Historically, we have often thought that having a small cluster of tight, long-term friends is crucial to being happy. But Christakis and Fowler found that the happiest people in Framingham were those who had the most connections, even if the relationships weren’t necessarily deep ones.

When it came to drinking, Christakis and Fowler found a different kind of gender effect. Framingham women were considerably more influential than Framingham men. A woman who began drinking heavily increased the heavy-drinking risk of those around her, whereas heavy-drinking men had less effect on other people. Why? In the age of frat-party binge drinking, you might imagine that hard-partying men are the most risky people to be around. But Fowler says he suspects women are more influential precisely because they tend to drink less. When a woman starts drinking heavily, he says, it sends a strong signal to those around her that it’s O.K. to start boozing too.

I went to alumni mock recruitment at Zeta Tau Alpha tonight. The house looks SO nice (they did SO much to it over the summer, yay re-models)! Afterward a bunch of the alumns went to Piatti in U vill for wine and dinner. I had the bestttt Gnocchi in a pesto cream sauce and a marinara sauce :) andddd some super yummy Cabernet! so so good.

I had a really long day of class.

Now I'm watching some of The Office :) and getting ready for bed. Also, I turned on the heat in my bedroom and shut the door so it'll be cozy for sleep. Wish I had my fav cuddle partner here with me. Sooo bad.

it's only day three and I'm not sure I can take three more years. I had to leave Criminal law this morning 1/2 way through because I got sick and had to go to the doctor. BOO: today. Overwhelmed. It'll be ok though.

I get to go home this weekend :):) I can't wait to see you!!!!!!!!!

yay

my financial aid finally went through

I did some law school reading tonight too. things are looking up.

my first day

today was my first full day in my apartment, by myself. I got into town last night and hung out with sister Erin. We went to Eastlake bar and grill for happy hour, then she helped me bring all of my things from my car to my apartment. After that we went to her house-sitting-house and then to EARL'S :) yay (yay = free shots, thanks dave, and cheap strawberry lemonaids).
Today we had law school orientation all day. I fell asleep during a lecture on professionalism and conduct in law school. OOPS.
I talked to my friend Rob today who independently contracts for Comcast. He's gonna get someone in here ASAP to set up my cable (yay). Right now I'm watching Clerks 2 b/c it's the only movie I have here. Yay Ellias. Ha.
I hope I can keep busy and not get too lonely here. So far I have a pretty packed schedule. Katie is coming Sunday night and staying for an interview on Monday morning. :) I'm excited.

part two of the move

the day before yesterday brian and I took a trip up to Seattle to move in a bunch more of my things (thankss for driving me up in your big SUV). We stopped at Ikea on the way and got a couch for me (thanks for putting that together ha). it was good. I now have a bed, a couch, a desk, most of my kitchen things, and a fully functioning bathroom. Hey, it's a good start! After moving in all of my things we went to 6arms mcmenimans for happy hour, where I fell in love with Ruby = a raspberry beer. SO good. Good thing it's only about 5 blocks from my apartment. Hah. We then went to a Mariner's game, where the score stayed 0-0 for 14 innings (4 hours). Finally they put Ken Griffy Jr in (FINALLY) and he hit it, they missed the catch and we wonnn. yay.
The next day we bought my books. All $941 worth of books (thanks Brian for helping me carry them back to my apartment). And then we came back to Hood River so I could work. 2 more days at Brian's Pourhouse. Sad times. BUT last night Shwag taught me how to be a bartender and now all I need is linen pants and I don't need law school :):) haha.
also: for all of you skeezies out there: Brian's underground now has video poker. boo.

happy to be alive

today I got attacked by my dog when I was trying to feed/play with him. it was literally one of the scariest things that has ever ever happened to me. I honestly though I was going to die. I thought after that he had broken my hand, but it's just bruised and cut and I'll hopefully be ok soon.

I swear I will never own a dog, ever, after today. I did nothing to provoke that. And if he hadn't had a kennel IDK what I would have done. BOO.

cali and things

I got back yesterday from Elizabeth's wedding in Irvine. Erin, Danielle, Kylee and I shared a room in Costa Mesa and had a really good time. One night we went out in Newport. My friend Chewy even came and met us and went to the bar with us and the SAE boys. The next day Danielle, Kylee and I went to Newport beach again and walked around on the beach, got in the water, went to the pier and I got a corndog :) mmm. I also got a SEVERE sunburn on my shoulders/neck/chest. Oops. It hurts bad now. But the wedding was amazing and I'm really glad I went.

Today I got a book in the mail from SU that I have to read before Aug 20th. Here I come next three years... sigh... I also figured out that I'm going to have over $56k in loans for next year. Boo. But it's whatever. I just hope I'm happy when I graduate :) Anyway. Off to work at Brian's in a few.

new things

I finally found an apartment

http://www.onethousand8thavenueapts.com/4/Apartments-in-Seattle-Washington/

yay!

Right now I'm sitting in the Phoenix airport waiting to go to OC for Elizabeth's wedding. So stoked to see Kylee, Erin and Danielle!!! I haven't seen them since UW graduation!!!
Watching bratty kids misbehave and parents who don't care makes me think of a story:

the other day I was working at Brian's Pourhouse. I was outside giving this table of 5 (two little boys, an older sister and parents) water. One little boy was poking me in the stomach while the other boy takes a drink of his lemonade, holds it in his mouth and proceeds to SPIT IT ON ME! The mom then goes "guys, I don't think she likes that". WTF? I go inside and tell my co workers. Later I go back out to clear the last dishes out of their way and give them their bill. The little boy who spit on me tries to hand me a glass and drops/breaks it. He starts apologizing profusely. I tell him it's ok, I do it all the time, and his dad slaps him across the face and tells him to shutup. OMG. Terrible parents. I was baffled.

Also, I'm done working at Ground as of Wednesday. Horray. Only one job now; I feel lazy. Hopefully I'll get moved into my new apartment ASAP :)
My parents leave for Vaca next weekend. I'll be housesitting. I'm thinking Jorts themed BBQ is in order :)

Anyway, about to board my flight to John Wayne Intl. Horray.

Monday, July 20, 2009

boo

yesterday I had the most amazing day.

Today I crashed my car into a guardrail while trying to avoid hitting a dog. FML. The side is super messed up. Then on my way home from church I got pulled over by a cop who I'm pretty sure just stopped me to chat. It was BS. He didn't even check my insurance or anything. Over it.

Going to Seattle Tuesday to apartment shop :) so so excited.

I want Urban, Nordstrom and Forever in my life. Also I will hopefully go on another "adventure", camping maybe? :) andddddd Friday I head up to Seattle to graduate on Saturday. Horray.

my new favorite breakfast:

plain yogurt with flax seed and honey, and the occasional berry (today I chose strawberries). So good.

I want honey greek yogurt from whole food and alpha delts and last summer :) so much love.
I also wish I could walk to get coffee and thai food and basically anything else I could ever want.
I don't however miss being woken up by Micah bringing me a bat he caught in his room, and the BIGGEST SPIDER I HAVE EVER SEEN, EVER! in Erin's room.

Haha, ok, enough reflection. Time to finish my breakfast and go work a double.

chelan

I got back from Lake Chelan with PC05 yesterday. It was amazing. We had a cabin on the lake, lots of girl time and booze and good food. We also rented a boat on Saturday. It was amazing (insert obvious "Fuck land, I'm on a boat motherf***er"). We even had an innertube we played with. I almost tanned, almost. I love my sisters.

We've got it good
Whether you like this town or not
I know it's small but with a big head
it's bound to get hot
In the summer
But the summer is a bummer
If you can't leave
This pathetic excuse for a town

yesterday, for Heather's birthday, and the beginning of a new year: I attached you to a red balloon and "let you go". I'm over it.

I've also decided that I refuse to go out in big groups to dinner/anywhere but a bar. Not worth it. Last night was drama. UGH.

Today I work at Ground and I'm on call at Brian's. Joel is working 44 hours this week at the home depot. awesome. I guess I'll see ya when I see ya then.

I want to go shopping; PORTLAND.

hola from PV day 4

today we're going up to Saluidas (a sweet european colonized surfing town, about a half hour north, or so I've been told) to visit leslie's aunt and cousin who are here on spring break too! I am really looking forward to surfing, which I have never done before! eek, yay! We might stay the night there too, but we're not for sure yet. Should be fun! Leslie's cousin is 19 and I think he is really excited to have someone to hang out with for a little while haha.

yesterday I got really sick (eff mexico ha). I spent the day with a stomach ache, throwing up pink gatorade. yuck. But we did go out to Bubba Gump Shrimp for dinner -- well, we meant to go to ZTAI but it was really weird and there was NO ONE in there so we were confused and went next door to Bubba Gump. I was able to get a smoothie and some crab stuffed shrimpies (mmmMMM)! It was really good. Then afterward Rita went out with our new girlfriends we met who are from Minnesota and Leslie and I stayed in (she is sick too) and watched some TV and went to bed pretty early!

Oh and the night before last we went to this awesome hole in the wall seafood grill in old town and then came back, got ready and went out to the clubs with our friends from Minnesota ha. Elsa (one of the Min girls) and I ended up getting pulled behind the bar at Senor Frog's. Haha. It was fun! Oh and I got a big drink, which I got something similar of in Las Vegas for $30 but it was only around $10 american here! I love cheap mexico (the drink prices are awesome here)! Anyway I desperately need to go shower! Update you soon!

love, Rebeka!

day two

blog from puerto vallarta (spring break 2009) day two:

so we just came back in from 4 or so hours at the pool. amazing. I kept myself lathered and very greasy with some spf 45 sunscreen layered with spf 25 and somehow managed not to burn (or at least I don't think I did) but instead get a little color (whoo hoo)! I am pretty proud of myself. We went swimming in the ocean which I lovedddd and a little in the pool too. We also had lunch at the resort restaurant again which was delish. They have the BEST guacamole there! Also We met some girls from Minnesota at the pool today who seem really nice, so I think we might go out to town with them tonight (dinner around 5:30, meet up with them between 8:30-9 and then catch a cab downtown). I'm having a better day today which is good! Also I feel totally safe here so far which is just fantastic (for everyone who was wondering). Anyway, just wanted to update! Muah.

rants from the first day in PV

So as I write I’m sitting in my hotel room in Puerto Vallarta. Leslie (my greek “little sis”) and I left Seattle at around 7am this morning to come here. I did a lot better than expected on the flights here (even through the most intense turbulence I’ve ever experienced). When we got here we waited at the airport for Leslie’s friend Rita to arrive (who I didn’t know) and we got a cab to our hotel. When we got there (in the heart of the old downtown part, which I loved, and it was right on the beach which I also loved) we discovered that they were going to charge us like twice as much as we had previously expected. We took a look at the room: one king sized bed for three people, & that was about it. Rita went to an internet café and searched priceline for a new hotel. She finally found us a room at the holiday inn (nicer than it sounds) which is a resort with a private beach, food, shipping, pools, all the works. And there are two beds in this room, and an awesome balcony that looks out over all of Puerto Vallarta (I’ll post pics later). So I guess everything worked out pretty well. I am just hoping I don’t run into anyone I don’t want to see on this trip. Anyway, right now I’m sitting in our hotel room watching an old episode of Desperate Housewives with Spanish sub titles because I am so so tired and my stomach hurts and I don’t want to go out drinking. Ugh. I hope that I get in a better mood and start to feel better or else this trip is going to suck. I also am praying I don’t start throwing up or get super sunburned. But I did try a shrimp and avocado salad thing that Joel’s mom recommended to me. It was delish. And also like the only thing I’ve eaten since a $10 salad at LAX. Ugh. But I’ve realized that I remember a lot more Spanish than I thought and I hope that my hair will get bleached out a little in the sun this week. Also I am excited to walk through the streets by our old hotel and go in the little shops and eat seafood. OMG the internet here is horrible horrible. And I’ve decided that vacations with Joel are my favorite. Seeing things with him and holding hands is the best. Plus we get along so so well :) love him a lot.

lasts

tonight I went to Fondi's with the Koory family (Crystal, Jim, Abbey and Amelia) for dinner (so good)! I'm going to MISS them :(

yesterday I hung out with my cousins chip and katie (well my cousin chip and his wife so that makes her my cousin). we went to happy hour/dinner at McMenimums (I have no idea how it's spelled) and then we went to Giggles where we watched Greg Giraldo do stand-up comedy. It was tons of fun/super funny! Oh and the guy at the door wouldn't take the $100 my dad had given me as a mini graduation gift because it was old and didn't have something on it? UMMM! My dad got it from the BANK the day before, and "JERRY GAVE THAT TO HER" haha! I promise it was legit! But I am glad I got to spend some time with my cousins! Oh and the patron shots were nice too. Ha. Chip and Katie are the greatest!

Also my parents came up Friday and spent the night. I went to Ivars on Alaskan way with them and had the BEST seafood EVER! My dad and I got some raw oysters and then I had a "clam bake", which had little and big clams (that tasted like silk butter delicious), shrimp, corn on the cob, red potatoes and THE BEST CRAB I'VE EVER TASTED! Mmm! Then we wanted to go to the Aquarium but it had already closed. So we went to some novelty shops and things. After that we went to Gaswork's park and walked around, then to my sorority for the last time (for them), and then to U Vill for coffee and H&M (for my mom).
That night I went on my last sorority grab-a-date. It was at a bar on the Ave. Danielle, Steffen and I took a lot of shots and I danced by myself (Joel had an 8:30 final the next am). I had a blast. After Kim and I (and danielle and steffen for a little) went to Earl's and I got into a little trouble with one of my student's "bitches" - her friend's term, NOT mine! So we left and I found my alpha delts favorites at Memos! We ate some mexican food and then I went back home. I woke up with guacamole all over my white shirt...
The next morning I picked up Joel and then my parents and we went to Beth's omlette where my dad tackled the 12 egg southern exposure omelet. He definitely finished it and called Adam from Man Versus Food (who couldn't finish it on National TV) a "pussy". Ha. Then we went up the Space Needle. I had never been before and neither had my mom. We didn't like it. It was too high and felt like it was going to fall over. My dad went up when it was built for the world fair in in the early 1960s. Cool cool.

Anyway here are some pictures of my adventures:

U Oklahoma

just got a call from Prof. Roberston (of the Indian law Dept) at the U Oklahoma school of law personally congratulating me on my admission to the law school and offering me his e-mail and phone number in case I had any questions about the law school or Indian law there. Awesome. Apparently they don't do that for everyone, so I felt special.

4/5 = cool :)

and this is the best ranked school so far.

oh yeah!

and I forgot (because I promised that I would update):
while Joel and I were getting a drink at the SeaTac airport before departing for Vegas (I figured it would calm me down, considering my VERY rational fear of flying) I checked my e-mail from my phone and found that I have been accepted to Ave Maria school of Law with a $20,000/ year for 3 years scholarship. Cool. 3/4=I'm doing alright.

memorable

Tomorrow is my last day of class at UW, then finals Monday Tuesday and Wednesday and I am done with Undergrad and will have earned a BA. Weird.
Also I went to Vegas last weekend with Joel for his birthday. We had such a fun time with his cousin Josh. I'll write about it later when it's not finals/dead week, but for now I posted some pictures to tie everyone over:

oh and PS here is the link to my facebook album with all of the picture from midnight-3am on Joel and Micah's 21st and pictures from most of Vegas!

it's been a while

Thursday night I went to Earl's with Stephanie. We walk in and I hand my ID to the bouncer. He looks at it for like, a minutes, then hands it to the other guy. So, I pull my bangs back and smile, and they both go, "OOoohhh" and then the bouncer I handed my ID to first goes, "sorry, I see it now, you're just soo much hotter now than you are in your picture". Wow. What do you say to that? I thought my picture was cute. Oops.

Yesterday I went tanning with Lauren and Caroline (after me and Lauren's class, which we got a ride to from our fb player bf, morgan, and after our ZTA lunch). Desert sun was having free tanning all day and I need to build my base tan so I don't burn and die when I go to mexico. I went in a medium pressure bed for FIVE MINUTES and I am burned so bad it hurts to sit. FML.

on that note, fmylife.com

and LOVE: http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?pageSize=96&page=3&style=A629 but I promise I'm not as creepy as I seem (all my friends are getting married... ok not all, but some).

tonight is our sorority dance. the theme is "decades", so my PC (pledge class) decided to all go as different decades "so we can stand in line and take pictures..." umm, ok. I am the 50s. It's my LAST sorority dance. Sad. I hope it's fun :)

last night after the party at Joel's house Joel wanted to go to Memos (24 hour cheap drunken mexican restaurant, think greasier and grosser taco bell with a million drunk college kids at like 2am). So we decided to drive. and FML I got a $35 parking ticket (for parking for literally 15 minutes at TWO IN THE MORNING). ugh.

the LSAC stresses me out/ruins things. things=my life. literally.

interior

I have been thinking a lot lately about what I want from my own space (you know, when I move to law school). I just stumbled upon this site and I like it a lot.

v day

I went back to Federal Way with Joel this weekend to spend some quality time with him and his fam. Friday night we went to the olive garden and I got some half moon raviolis with shrimp (ok, not that exciting but I keep seeing them on TV and I've been having pasta/seafood cravings lately).
Early the next morning Joel woke up and snuck out to buy me pink tulips (my fav) and candy for v day. I was surprised when I got up and went into the kitchen to get coffee (I love that his parents ALWAYS have a big pot of hot coffee ready for me in the mornings) and I was surprised by my little gift! Awwwww. We hung out with Joel's nephew Caden and I felt sick for a lot of the day (I have my apt with the gastroenterologist tomorrow morning at 7:45AM!!!!!) but I finally started feeling better that night.
The next day (Sunday) Joel and his parents and myself went and saw "he's just not that into you"! Yay. I liked it. Joel's mom also made "me" crab and shrimp "yum" (I think it's called sauce pecan or something, but it's soooo good) and Joel and I hung out and watched tv and cuddled last night. It was nice.
Today Joel and I got ready and he really wanted pizza buffet so we went to Godfather's (which made my tummy hurt after 1 piece of pizza) and then we went back to his house to kick it for a while until his dentist's apt. I looked for flights to Syracuse to visit. Then I did some homework. AND then we went to Emerald City Smoothie and got me a smoothie (since I hadn't really eaten) and to the store to get me a vogue. I sat in Joel's living room and read my magazine and enjoyed my smoothie while Joel went to the dentist (NO cavities! yay!) Then Joel's parents got home from their movie and took us to get food and then we left from there to come back up to UW.
When I got back into my room I found a bouquet of flowers from my parents for valentines day :) AWW! They are very pretty!
Basically mundane but much enjoyed weekend. NOW it's time to watch the big bang theory :):) <3

law school

So, I just heard back from my first law school, and I got in!!!

I'M GOING TO LAW SCHOOL!

I got into Syracuse (in NY), which isn't my #1 choice, but it does have an Indian Law program which is important AND it means that I'm going to law school! Yay! I'm SO excited!

25 Random Facts About Me:

1. I am one of the 2% of people who burn in super high pressure tanning beds.
2. I am legitimately 100% afraid that I won’t get into law school (there was a mishap with a letter of recommendation). There is also a part of me that thinks I have a shot at getting into somewhere amazing if everything works out.
3. “where will I rediscover you” by Rod McKuen is my favorite poem, I read it daily.
4. I really enjoy the food network and the travel channel
5. I wish I were blonder.
6. Some of my favorite foods are: seafood (especially scallops, crab and lobster), yellow coconut curry from the Thaiger Room, clam chowder bread bowls, pear and walnut salads from 6th St. Bistro, Sushi, Citra plain frozen yogurt, nachos with sour cream, alfredo pasta, and potatoes (especially mashed). I am almost convinced that I could live off of these foods alone (and sometimes I do).
7. I drink drip coffee or double 12oz non-fat vanilla lattes every day. I also love black tea lattes (they remind me of being in England with Katie).
8. I feel alcohol should be a part of everyone’s college experience.
9. The first thing I am going to buy if/when I become “successful” is a Marc Jacobs bag. I like Marc Jacobs a lot. And then I am going to give a ton to my parents.
10. I’ve always been a “daddy’s girl” while Jim and my mom have always had their thing, I love them both as well.
11. I think reading the Bible is a necessity.
12. I want to travel to New York City, Paris and Hawaii As Soon As Possible.
13. I don’t feel my college education was worth as much as it cost (even though I got a lot of it paid for through financial aid and scholarships). I do however feel that I worked my butt off in school.
14. I want to be a tribal lawyer when I “grow up”.
15. I am the most stressed out person ever, so much that it affects my body in really negative ways constantly.
16. I am deathly afraid of butterflies (stemming from nightmares I had as a child) I get anxiety even thinking about them.
17. I have nightmares almost every night.
18. I read celeb gossip sites.
19. Cats make me happy (especially mine)
20. One of my biggest goals and something I struggle with every day is: to not judge people. That isn’t my job and it isn’t nice either.
21. My first ever time on a plane was the summer after my freshman year of college, I went to San Diego to visit my roommate. The second time was 2 days after my 21st Birthday, I went to England to visit my BFF Katie (and I was jetlagged the ENTIRE time). The third will be this March when I go to Vegas for Joel’s 21st and the 4th will be when I graduate/spring break when I go to Puerto Vallarta.
22. I have a thing for blue eyes. Okay, more than just a thing; it may be becoming problematic.
23. I am a good cook. I think it’s because I grew up on a ranch watching my mom cook on a wood cook stove. Oh, and I am completely capable of going and growing/gathering/killing and then preparing my dinner. MMmm.
24. I am very articulate. And I have “comic book handwriting” (those go together, right?).
25. I hope to find someone in life who values the same things as me and who treats me the way they want to be treated, but I also believe in loving people for who they are and giving second chances when they are deserved.

flush

so I'm thinking of doing a colon cleanse... I've thought about doing a fast to try and make my tummy happy, but I don't know if I could go a few days without food when I have school and work and homework and I need to be up early and go to bed fairly late. I've heard that there are a few good cleanses you can pick up at the drug/health food store, so maybe I'll try one of those...

any suggestions? any advice?

last night I went out in hood river for Sarah's going away party (she's going to Japan to snowboard and teach lessons and stuff for three months) and it was amazing. I had so much fun. it made me not want to leave (ha). we started out at the british pub then moved on to Jack's where we "danced the night away" haha. I want to go back to the HR.
