Gurl, you fine!

And tonight I’m doing a face mask so that my skin can be all awesome and beautiful for Danielle and Steffen’s wedding in Half Moon Bay this weekend (have I mentioned lately that I’m soooooo excited?).

Kylee was definitely jealous of how good I look (even though we both have in matching messy buns right now – keeping it classy):

DSCN1160

I’m pretty sure you could scare little children with this picture. If you know, you were the type of person who liked to scare little children.

Also this post has no point. I’m just bored and tired. Very tired. But not from lack of sleep. Maybe from lack of good sleep? Someone please help me!

IP Lessons

I've had a really unproductive morning. Mostly because my Intellectual Property professor introduced me to the world of BitTorrent yesterday. I don't think that's what he had in mind when he was asking us whether or not we though that IP laws were good for society and whether or not we thought downloading music via BitTorrent was immoral. (FYI most people answered yes to the first question and no to the second ha). Then feeling like I live under a rock I googled BitTorrent and was introduced to its magic.

Anyway, here are two of my morning song obsessions:

Also did I mention that it's still August and it's cold and cloudy and awful in Seattle.

The end of August and I'm wearing a long sleeve shirt, jeans and boots. WTF? I'm not happy about it.

I've decided I'm also not happy with my hair and it needs to grow, but that's another story for another day.

End of August outfit, in my lovely living room
Now it's time to go cram in some reading before class & my clinic.

MRB’s birthday fun

Last night Erin and I went to this lovely lady’s house for her birthday celebration:

MRB's birthday prefunk (3)

Mary Rose was our sorority sister in college, and last night we were celebrating her 22nd birthday (that made me feel old fo sho).

HAYYY I’m old:

MRB's birthday prefunk (7)

But it was alright. I had a good time seeing some of my beautiful sorority sisters even though Erin and I were the oldest sisters there.

MRB's birthday prefunk (2)

From left to right: Me, MRB, Erin and A Jo

Oh and one more success of the night: A Jo successfully sent out her first ever twit-pic! Whoo! I felt like a good person for showing her how :)

Clearly we were both really excited:MRB's birthday prefunk

And that’s what I did last night, even though I was really really tired.

Good story, right?

Wednesday Nights

“On Wednesdays we get drunk” was definitely my, Lias, Brittan and Natalie’s motto this week. Whoops! Good thing I didn’t have class until 4pm on Thursday (oh the joys of 3L and the first week of school).

I’ve just been so go go go lately that today I’m exhausted. After breakfast this morning at the Rusty Pelican in Wallingford (right near my house) with some of my sorority pledge class (PC05) Erin and I came home, plopped down in our very hot living room and watched hours of Keeping up with the Kardashians. Don’t judge. It was necessary.

Anyway, back to my Wednesday night adventure:

After I got out of class Wednesday I met Lisa, Brittan and Natalie for pizza and a pitcher at Piecora’s (our fav pizza spot in Seattle, and it is conveniently right near school – have I mentioned that I love going to school on Capitol Hill?). Anyway we place our order with the waiter and he comes back with the pitcher of beer we ordered and also 4 free key lime vodka shots. Um, awesome. The perks of being 4 cute girls, I suppose! And also flirting with the waiter, just a little. WHOOPS!

We take our shots, thank the waiter and say goodbye to Lisa who had plans. We get our pizza and Brittan, Natalie and I go to work. The waiter keeps coming back to chat with us, and after we figured out that he is from The Dalles (which is like 15 minutes away from my small hometown and Brittan’s actual hometown) he brings us 4 more free shots. Lisa had already left so we convinced him to take the extra shot. Awesome.

After lingering for a long while and having more conversations with said waiter, things actually starts to get a little awkward. We take it in stride though, especially when he brings us our bill with only a pitcher and a pizza on there, discounted 50%. Perfect. We then decide its time to go meet Natalie’s boyfriend for another drink at Tavern Law.

And just our luck, when we got there we went to the secrete phone and phoned up to the speakeasy who had just enough space for us to have one drink. Perf!

DSCN1106

Too bad we were a little drunk at this point and definitely got yelled at for taking a picture with a flash. WHOOPS! Apparently the speakeasy is classy? Who knew. Haha! Anyway, at least we got this sweet picture of Brittan and I in the cool princess chair!

Also the waiter totally friended Brittan on FB. Love connection? Probably not. After all, he definitely went to school at Chennoweth. Yeah we judged. So sue us.

So that’s the story of my first Wedneday night of 3L.

Also, P.S. I realize that I sound kind of like an alcoholic lately :( Boo. I’m really not, I super, duper promise. Usually I only have time for school, so I guess it’s been fun updating you all on all of my fun adventures (which often include some boozy goodness). I’m sure my drinking will curb drastically in the next few days as school starts to pick up.

Trivia Night at the Chieftain

Last night I put off reading for two hours and went to the first ever trivia night at the Chieftain Pub some some other 3L friends. We were all really excited when this bar opened a few weeks ago, because, wait for it… it’s right across the street from the Law School!! How convenient, right? Also it is owned by the same people who own one of our favorite UW college bars, Finn MacCool’s.

Here is our team:

DSCN1096

Team name: “The eyes are the nipples of the face” (John came up with that one with inspiration from the movie “House Bunny”.. haha)

Our team, starting from left to right: Erin (Forrest’s GF and the only non-3L), Ameet, John, Susan, Nicole, Sister Erin, ME & Forrest.

Right? We got really into trivia. And we KILLED IT! So much so that we were the winners of the first ever trivia night at the Chieftain. What an honor, right? Ha!

Here is all of us (minus Ameet) with the trivia host, Simon Green (I know that because the first trivia question (which we nailed) was: what is your trivia host’s name?).

DSCN1098

(again, Erin, John, Susan, Nicole, Sister Erin (my roommie), Me, Forrest & Simon Green)

I decided that putting off reading for a few hours was a good idea after leaving the school BBQ yesterday. I got out of my clinic at around 5:30 yesterday evening and headed out to the commons for some free law school BBQ food. I found a few friends sitting outside and sat down with them to eat. When I was done with my food I sat there for another 15 minutes talking. Then I started to feel extremely guilty that I wasn’t doing homework. I was just sitting there wasting time, not reading. It was a severe case of the law school guilt, on the second day of school. It was ridiculous.

I proceeded to hurry home, read for about an hour, take a facebook break and see Erin’s status about trivia. I immediately replied and joined them there. I had this epiphany that I shouldn’t be feeling bad for taking short breaks on the second day of law school., I shouldn’t feel bad for taking short breaks ever. Law school needs to be more about balance. I need to find a way to get past the life-crushing law-school-guilt!

So I took a two hour break, went to trivia, enjoyed myself, came home, read for another 2 hours, went to bed, woke up this morning, read for another hour and went to class more prepared than most people. It totally wasn’t a big deal. And now I can say that I was part of the team who won the first ever Trivia Night at the Chieftain! Team: “the eyes are the nipples of the face!” Hooray!

New life motto: work hard, play hard.

Now off to Intellectual Property, then meeting Brittan and Natalie for dinner/pizza at Piecora’s. Which is seriously amazing! Especially when you’re eating there with two of your very favorite law school ladies! Mmm!

In the year before Love

Earlier today I read this post, titled “Do you ever worry that you won’t meet your soul mate?” by Joanna who writes the blog A Cup of Jo.

This could not have come at a more perfect time after everything that has been happening in my personal life lately. Also, just last night I had a dinner date with my severely neglected BFF Katie (sorry I’ve been gone all summer, we can NEVER go that long without seeing each other ever again!). At dinner we spent a while talking about relationships, past and present, and what we’re looking for in our potential husbands (girl talk, you know). This post was the perfect follow up to my conversation with Katie.

In the post Joanna talks about her single days and how badly she wanted to find “the one,” how she knew she was getting older and had the constant voice in the back of hear mind asking what if he never arrives? I think that a lot of my friends and myself are often looking forward to the day when we find “the one.” We’re so consumed with this that we don’t enjoy the now. We’re always looking ahead. Thinking that when we find the one we’ll be happier, more complete people. This just seems silly when I sit here and type it out on the screen, but it’s true and it’s something I think a lot of women are guilty of.

In her blog post, Joanna poses the question: "If you knew you were going to meet the love of your life in one year, how different would that year be?"

This hypothetical question has kept me thinking all day.

How differently would my year be? My last year of law school. The year I turn 25. The year I become a lawyer. If I just stopped worrying about finding the one, about being a couple and started worrying about myself (in both the most and least selfish ways possible). If I could just do this, how would my life change? And would it change for the better?

I’m not really sure of the answer to this yet. At first I thought it would change drastically. But as I think more about it, I don’t really know if it would. I would definitely spend more time studying and more time with my girlfriends (as if I don’t already spend enough time doing both haha). I think I would have less FOMO (fear of missing out) – which I am a chronic obsesser over. But other than that I think most things would be the same. I guess I would try and do things by myself more often too. But for the most part I feel like I’m a pretty independent person (when I’m not coupled) and I do all of these things a reasonable amount anyway.

I think this question will have me thinking for a while.

So single friends, I challenge you to think about how your life would be different if you knew that you were going to meet the love of your life in one year. How different would the next year be for you?

The Red Carpet – Favorite Night

My last Thursday night in Hood River may have been my very favorite night in Hood River this summer. It started out with beers at Double Mountain, Greg texting me then coming to meet up with us, then moving to the Pub for a “baby beer” and me trying my very hardest to convince everyone to go to the Red Carpet (which is a dive bar on the other end of town – most of the bars we go to are in walking distance of each other in downtown Hood River).

Greg and I used to go to the Red Carpet last summer with some of our other friends. We went fairly often, and fairly randomly, and it was always a fun time. I definitely missed it and hadn’t been since my last time with Greg on Tristan’s birthday last August. I NEEDED to go again. It took a bit of convincing to get Josh there. Greg, Dave and Beth weren’t too hard to convince (and that’s why I like them – party time). Anyway, mission accomplished.

When we got there we all took Jegar Bombs. “Thursday’s the new Friday, CHEERS!“

Seriously I LOVE these people SO much (capitals are trying to make my point) LOVE LOVE (also missing Marissa – she hadn’t arrived yet):

DSCN1024

Let’s get excited, Friendz!!

DSCN1025 DSCN1026

We had some more beers and it was so so good. We sat outside and there weren’t many people there. I just love the Red Carpet. Have I mentioned that lately?

While sitting outside I ruined some potentially cute pictures with Greg (who is just super cute in general :)

DSCN1027 DSCN1030

Then Dave and Josh played some Pool while the rest of us chatted and sipped on cheap beers. We also sang along to some lonely island songs (standard)! Seriously the best.

 DSCN1057 DSCN1058

Then we started doing “Shake Face” or Joules as we called it in College. Basically you shake your face back and forth and make it all loose and someone tries to catch your awkwardness on camera:

DSCN1035DSCN1046

DSCN1073 DSCN1072DSCN1075

Then we started to feel like this:

 DSCN1079 DSCN1080DSCN1082

DSCN1084

So then we figured it was time to head back to Dave’s house for some hot tub time machine. Literally. Time escaped us and it felt like I’d only been there for 5 minutes and I had somehow consumed more alcohol (even though I hadn’t, and we had been there much longer).

And then before I knew it we were leaving. And I accomplished a little mission of mine.

I really really REALLY loved Red Carpet night. It was the most perfect night I could have asked for during Hood River Summer fun time.

Then the next day everyone else was hungover at work, so Josh (Yosh) and I went to the Hood River and had beach day and hair of the dog day with Coronas on the beach. And it was good. I literally sat on a rock in the river for about an hour trying to absorb water through my skin. That’s a thing, right?

DSCN1085

But now, sadly, all of that fun, most amazing friend time is over. And I’m back in Seattle. And I start school tomorrow. And I’m going to complain about it.

But, tomorrow is my very last, ever, first day of school. Hi there, 3L, I feel like I was just starting law school. So so weird. But that’s another post for another day when I have much less exciting, happy, fun things to blog about. Hi there, school. Hi there, boring life. Good bye Hood River Summer, I’ll miss you most of all. Time of my life, seriously!

Back to Reality

Right now I'm trying to pack this mess up:

Oh heyyy there very messy, highschool room.

I'm really not looking forward to leaving home and heading back to school. School is just so much work. And so is trying to deal with this disaster in my room.

Also I'm not looking forward to leaving this little Fluffy love:

Fluffy Face in a bag on my floor
Can I please just take him back with me?

And take this back with me too? I'm definitely going to miss river days with my favorites:

The Hood River - taken while standing in the river yesterday.
Ok, time to get back to work. Next time we chat I'll be back in Seattle. It's been amazing, Hood River/White Salmon. I'll miss you most of all!

P.S. please don't judge my messiness, I'm not normally like this (I'm pretty neat freak usually) but life has been crazy here for the past few weeks and I haven't really had a place for anything, so it has just gone on the floor. WHOOPS!

Columbia River Fun

Yesterday was my last scheduled day of work at Ground.

While I was at work a got a random text saying “wakeboard boat tonight at 4”. So clearly I responded “I don’t get off work until 5. Also, who is this?” Turns out it was my friend Laura who owns the British Pub in Hood River (AKA our fav hang out), and she said it was no problem and they could bring the boat back in at 5:45 to pick me up. Score!!

After work I hurried home to change into my bikini then headed down to the marina. When I got there, a boat full of people I didn’t really know were waiting for me – only in Hood River would I do something like this. So I get on the boat and we head out onto the river. It’s me, Laura from the pub, some girls in town from Lithuania, a girl in town for the summer who bartends at the Pub (Jessie), some girl named Rachel, Greg’s old roommate (Jobi), the guy who owns the boat (Jason, who I’m apparently FB friends with), some dentist guy and some other guys. While I knew who a few of the people were, I didn’t really know anyone well. Clearly I make good life choices. Whatever, you’re only young once.

When we got to the river, the wake boarding and wake surfing started. It was so so cool to watch. I’ve decided that guys who are really good at water sports are really attractive. Boom! Maybe I can kiss a water-sport-boy? (if you follow me on twitter you understand). Anyway, I didn’t do any of the activities because I can’t swim (awkward, right?) and everyone else doing them clearly knew what they were doing (I didn’t want the boat to have to keep stopping and coming back for me freaking out in the water), so I just sipped on some PBR and enjoyed the water and watching people be sexual and the loud LMFAO pandora station music we were blasting. I wish I would have brought my camera! Fail.

Then it got dark, and we shut off the boat in the middle of the river and had an epic dance party for at least an hour, in the dark, in the middle of the river, before heading back in.

It was definitely good times.

Then I did something I’m not proud of: I went to the Pub in my river clothes and with my river hair. I promised myself I would never be that girl. Gross. Good thing we were the only ones there. I stayed for just a few minutes before going home to hang with Fluffy and go to sleep.

Then today I met my friend Marissa and her daughter, Zara at the river for some beach fun. I’m loving Hood River Summer Unemployment. I don’t want to start school again on Monday.

DSCN0995

So for now I leave you with this picture I snapped from the waterfront park beach (HOW did I not capture any SUPers or windsurfers? So confused). Don’t you wish you were enjoying some Hood River Summer Unemployment with me?

Monster

Last night I went out with my lovelies in Hood River (seriously trying to live it up a little before school starts - my liver probably hates me). The night started out slow at the Pub but ended in a ton of dancing, first at Jack's then when Marissa and I were heading back to her house we ran into some of our fav boys skating on the street (Sean is in town for the weekend and it is always so so good to see him), picked them up and headed to the TREW house for a dance party on a coffee table. Totally random but fun.

Speaking of dance parties, I'm kind of obsessing over this song this weekend:

It's funny how my music tastes change from Summer to Winter - when I generally listen to more alternative type music, but summer I'm all about dancy, rap-ish music!

And tonight I'm so excited to go to the Dalles to see my law school friends Brittan and Lisa who are in town visiting Brittan's parents. Apparently her  parents are having an awesome country-style party tonight, so that should be fun! I'll try and take some pictures to share with you all! So now I'm off to try and keep myself distracted and happy, and if that means partying too much then I guess I'm willing to deal with that. You're only young once, right? Ha. That's what I'm going to keep telling myself!

Love you all XXOO

Jersey Shore Party

Or should I say Jersey Whore party? Because that’s kind of what it felt like to me. Ha.

Last night the Pub in Hood River hosted a Jersey Shore themed night. My friend Beth and I got dressed up in our best skanky animal print, about a ton of makeup and high heels and headed downtown. Josh joined us in his best bright pink, deep V-neck tee, aviators and he even let us gel his hair! He looked awesome!

I seriously cannot believe that people dress like this all the time… even though I did get a few legit compliments from strangers who didn’t get the memo that it was Jersey Shore themed night… I’ll take a compliment when I can get it ha.

I guess I was lookin’ good in my $15 dress from Top to Bottom! Ha! Kidding!! Not too many people ended up dressing up last night. But those of us who did had a good time!

Beth and I in our animal print before heading out to fist pump for hours:

After a Difficult Night...

I came home to find the very last Sex and the City episode on E!

& this quote... it's just perfect for tonight and today and my life lately:
Later that day I got to thinking about relationships. There are those that open you up to something new and exotic, those that are old and familiar, those that bring up lots of questions, those that bring you somewhere unexpected, those that bring you far from where you started, and those that bring you back. But the most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you can find someone to love the you you love, well, that's just fabulous.”
Even though I'm doing much, much better, I guess I still need some happy vibes sometimes (especially after weird, unexpected set-backs). I'm trying to work on my happiness by keeping up my energy (I've decided there is a direct correlation between energy levels and happiness) and keeping my mindset positive. It's just hard at times. But it's getting better, very slowly but surely.

So for now, cheers to working on my relationship with myself!

obsessing

Guys, seriously, I'm obsessing over thehoodinternet.com - I blame my good friend Josh for this one. But some free, new music is just what I've been needing.

The Hood Internet - Fire It Up, Firemouse (Lil Wayne x Modest Mouse) by hoodinternet
The Hood Internet - Moneymaking Money Maker That Makes Money (Ludacris x Rilo Kiley) by hoodinternet
The Hood Internet - The T-Pains Of Being Pure At Heart (T-Pain x The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart) by hoodinternet

These are a few of the good songs I've found over the past few days. You can also download full mixtapes which are like an hour long. So great!

Ok I'll stop gushing.

Anyway, a little later I'm meeting my friend Beth for a day-time-ish/after-work beer at Double Mountain (which is like my all-time-favorite brewery). Excited!

Bored Face

For the first time since I’ve been back home in the Gorge I am bored. I don’t know what to do with my day. Everyone else is working (or something - weird), and my coffee date bailed on me (whatever, Borachi, I didn't want to see you anyway).

Beth, Marissa and I want to learn/choreograph a dance to this song and bust it out like dorks sometime in the near future, so maybe that’s what I’ll do with my day:

It's been a while since I've attempted to learn choreography from a video. I'm not sure I still have the patience.

Ohhhh man...

Hood River Summer

Don’t worry, friends, I’m not dead or feeling too sorry for myself in a heap on my bed or anything like that. Just trying to keep myself distracted in the Gorge, which has subsequently meant that I haven’t had time to blog for the last week. But I’m happy to report that after a really bizarre, but mostly fun and exciting Hood River Summer week I am feeling better and also that I have wonderful, amazing friends! YAY!

Here are some things I’ve been doing in the Gorge with those lovely friends of mine:

When I got back into town last Tuesday, I met up with my friend Marissa and her mom and her daughter Zara and we went to Ruins Tuesday at a winery in Hood River. They had the Solstice Wood Fire Pizza Wagon (I actually worked as a waitress at Solstice one summer in College, so it holds a special place in my heart), and beer and wine and music and a dance floor, and it was fun:

DSCN0850 DSCN0849  DSCN0851

DSCN0852

Zara is such a cutie with her silly faces. We’re basically BFF these days which I have been loving!!

Since Marissa’s mom was in town we decided to take her out for “girl’s night” on Friday. We went to Brian’s Pourhouse for a glass of wine and appetizers and then stopped by the Pub to say hi before ending up at Jack’s to show her a taste of what Hood River is really like. Haha. I don’t know if it was a completely accurate representation.

DSCN0858 DSCN0855

And then the other day my parents’ had a BBQ at their house. Chip and Katie and the kids came over. My brother was here too. And Beth, Marissa and Josh came when they got off work. It was super fun. My parents bought a new BBQ so the boys (my dad, Chip & Brother Jim) set it up while Katie and I watched, then we grilled, then we all took turns riding on the 4-wheeler, and going to the barn to see the cats with Kyle and Tabby, and looking at my dad’s garden with him and doing other farm-ish-things. The only bad part of the day was when I got stung by a bee. BOO!

  DSCN0861DSCN0864 DSCN0866DSCN0869  DSCN0883  DSCN0872 DSCN0876 DSCN0881 DSCN0878DSCN0871 DSCN0879  DSCN0877

Later that night I ended up at Brian’s Basement Bar with Joe and Karen (who I love). You may remember that Karen even came and visited me in the trailer park!! It was rad! Anyway, they convinced me to go have a drink with them and then Joe basically peer pressured me into taking a shot (ok so maybe it wasn’t that hard to convince me, free for me Patron? yes plz)!

DSCN0899 DSCN0901

Then yesterday I woke up at Beth and Marissa’s house because clearly I couldn’t drive after my shot and Beth, Josh and I went to breakfast at Egg Harbor and it was delicious. After a quick pit stop back at the house to watch way too many youtube videos with Josh (I’m on a boat, three way, Boats & Hos, Shake that Bear (I would NOT recommend ha), and drop it low), we picked up our friend Dave and went swimming at the Punch Bowl until Marissa was off work. When she got off we made tacos and then went and saw Cowboys and Aliens with some smuggled in beer from the house. Then we went back up to the house and watched more youtube videos (for hours) and it was good.

I loveeee my friends the most. They have definitely done the best job of keeping me busy and distracted. And as a little distraction for you, isn’t this just the best Hood River Summer song?

But now I have to go go G-O because it’s time to get ready for work. Oh yeah, did I mention I’ve been picking up some shifts at the coffee shop while I’ve been here? Ground 4 Lyfe! Seriously. I just can’t seem to get away after 6 1/2 years. Oh well – I could definitely use some extra money!

Oh and P.S. thank you so much for all of your comments the other day. They honestly made my heart so happy. Love!
