The Gorge in January

Last week I was sick which was a total bummer. I struggled through work for a few days because of meetings and guilt from being gone in South America for two weeks, but finally I gave up and took some much needed sick time to rest, watch Gilmore Girls on Netflix and drink a ton of tea. Most of the people in my group at work have been sick the last two weeks, I guess it’s that time of the year. I would like that time to be over now. Also, January can be over too, while we’re at it #amiright?!

Anyway, last Friday breathing was at least bearable again and my energy levels were back up to a normal-ish level and I had a hair appointment scheduled for Saturday in Hood River, so I decided to drink some coffee head home for the weekend after checking to see that there was no traffic. I had only been back “home” once (Thanksgiving) since October and had Ecuador/Christmas prezzies for everyone I was anxious to get out of my tiny apartment. Double plus, Fluffy snuggles cure all things.

When I got into town on Friday I stopped by Beth’s house to see her puppy and chat for a little bit. I then went to my parents’ to spoon with my Fluffy cat like an adult and take a little nap (driving 4 hours is hard work, obvi). Eventually I got up and after visiting with my dad for a bit, headed down to hill to have dinner with Josh and Sarah at Everybody’s Brewing. Sarah and I split the pulled prok nachos which are never a bad idea (p.s. these). We then headed over to Hood River to meet a few friends before I called it a night.

Saturday I lounged around my parents’ house all morning, soaking up the wood heat with my fluffy cat and my family. I gifted them their Ecuador prezzies and they gave me a picture I’d been wanting foreverrr. It is a picture a local photographer took of one of the old barns on my parents’ property with Mt. Adams in the background. The picture is printed on metal and it’s so, so gorgeous.

After hanging at my parents’ all morning I realized I was kind of ravenous and I headed to Hood River to get myself a bagel and some green juice. When I was done eating I walked myself to Dog River for a cup of coffee and some reading and some chatting with Emily (Beth’s sister) and J Bunz who were working the counter.

I eventually walked down to meet Josh and Sarah and do a little shopping downtown before my haircut. Kalyn chopped like 6” of length off my hair (small part of waist –> armpit) plus gave me more bangs plus razor cut a million layers into my hair. It seems a v, v different to me, but so far almost no one has noticed so maybe it’s really not that different? Whatevs. At least now it won’t take 20 minutes to blow-dry, hopefully.

After my haircut I walked back to Josh and Sarah’s and we headed down to Camp 1805 Distillery to meet Tonya and have a happy hour drink (my choice: the White Manhattan) before dinner at Solstice, which was delicious and amazing per usual. My favorite place in the Gorge!!

After dinner Josh, Sarah and I went to the Pub to play a few rounds of Jenga (which our friends have written all over, over the years = amazing). We ran into a few other friends and it was a good, relatively low key night.

The next morning I slept in before meeting Gaby for a breakfast sandwich at River Daze and then coffee at Dog River. After we had got in all of our chatting about all of the things, I headed back to Seattle.

My heart felt so full and happy leaving. Even during a low-key weekend at home I still managed to spend time with so many people who make me so, so happy. I ate good food, I visited with my family, I snuggled with my cat and with Kiva and I left with white hairs allll over all of my black clothes (standard). I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Weekend trip to Hood River (April 2013 edition)

Last Friday after work I hopped in the Corolla and drove myself down to Hood River for a weekend of fun with my favorites.

When I got there I immediately headed to Marissa's to spend a few minutes with her and Z before heading downtown to meet up with the rest of the crew for a few drinks.

It was so fun to be able to see so many friends so soon after I got into town. Yay for Hood River night life!

The next morning, after a sleepover with Beth in her tiny new apartment (which I love), she and I met up with friends (Sarah, Josh, Ashley, Phinney, Faith, Huggy, & Tonya to be exact) for breakfast at the Riverside Grill. We had bloody marys and eggs and the whole thing made my heart ridiculously happy.

After breakfast, Beth and chilled out at her apartment for a while. She hung some pictures on her wall while I offered moral support (best friend award, right here), we played music videos on youtube (A$AP Rocky!! #sogood), and got dressed up in our FOREVER SUMMER outfits (despite the rain... screw the rain!). Hawaiian shirts (and my new sunnies) are my new jam, by the way.

After we were dressed, we ventured out for fro-yo and we even dropped some off with Dana and Marissa at work. Because, I mean, just because you have to work doesn't mean you shouldn't get to enjoy some forever summer fro-yo love.

We also went to Ground to see Mo's artwork on the walls, and get some coffee from her and Calvin.

Mo, myself and Calvin behind the counter at Ground, where I worked on and off for 7.5 years

And we got a beer at Double Mountain, which I've decided is 100% the happiest place in the world. Take me back, please.

Finally it was time to BBQ at Josh and Sarah's, so Beth and I went to Rosauers and got some steaks and beer to take with us.

We spent the evening hanging at their house, eating meat and drinking beers, chatting with some of our favorite people and having an epic all girls dance party for hours. I can honestly say it was the best night I've had in a really long time. I even got bruises on my knees from dropping it lowww. Whoops!

Marissa and I poppin' our Ps and droppin' it low!

The next morning I went to breakfast with Beth and Cole at Nora's Table (which is my new, very favorite breakfast spot in Hood River. Guys, it's soo good).

I got the chicken and waffles with some poached eggs. It hit the spot. And, after breakfast, when Beth and I dropped off Cole, he gave me a kiss through a parking receipt. Take that, Beth! It was magical.

After that I hung around town for a while before finally heading back to Seattle. It was the best weekend with the best people. I love Hood River!! Take me back, please.

Jersey Shore Party

Or should I say Jersey Whore party? Because that’s kind of what it felt like to me. Ha.

Last night the Pub in Hood River hosted a Jersey Shore themed night. My friend Beth and I got dressed up in our best skanky animal print, about a ton of makeup and high heels and headed downtown. Josh joined us in his best bright pink, deep V-neck tee, aviators and he even let us gel his hair! He looked awesome!

I seriously cannot believe that people dress like this all the time… even though I did get a few legit compliments from strangers who didn’t get the memo that it was Jersey Shore themed night… I’ll take a compliment when I can get it ha.

I guess I was lookin’ good in my $15 dress from Top to Bottom! Ha! Kidding!! Not too many people ended up dressing up last night. But those of us who did had a good time!
